Katherine joined the Programa Velasco team in February 2017 as a volunteer during her summer break from the University of Central America (UCA). This week, Katherine began working part-time for Programa Velasco. She also is beginning her 3rd year at the UCA where she studies marketing.
As someone who identifies as creative, in solidarity with others, and authentic, it is important to Katherine to find ways to live out her compilation of talents and interests– ranging from graphic design, to entrepreneurship to advocating for social justice.
Her desire to balance both marketing and social justice was influenced by her parents’ encouragement. “They always said that I needed an education to best support others.” Katherine’s parents also challenged her to study topics she is interested in and figure out how her studies could also improve a need in the community.
Katherine’s marketing and communication talents meet Programa Velasco’s needs and efforts to correspond with program sponsors, our social media followers, and families and entrepreneurs that participate in our programs. We appreciate and celebrate Katherine’s passion to carry out public relations while wearing a social justice lens! We look forward to sharing Katherine’s work on Programa Velasco’s website and social media pages.
