Trauma Informed

Staff and partner organizations comprehend the widespread impact trauma has on children and families and work to address the signs and symptoms while fostering individual and collective resilience.

In the midst of so much difficulty, it’s important to focus on the positive and help our participants identify their strengths, gifts, and talents. This self-awareness tool is used in addressing changes in behavior, attitudes, and beliefs.

We prioritize helping our participants to be the decision makers of their lives. Our staff walks with participants through each step of their experiences of learning, healing, and gaining more skills. They honor each participant’s story and respect their feelings and limits.

Specialized Treatments

If needed and desired, PV offers participants access to EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Brain Spotting, Mindfulness, and HeartMath.

Counseling Sessions

Counseling Sessions

Two clinical psychologists provide personalized counseling sessions, one for the women entrepreneurs and the other for children and their families. Their participation and the treatment are voluntary and free.

In groups, children and women entrepreneurs participate in activities where they learn about mental health topics such as self-care, gender equality, managing emotions, self-esteem, and self-awareness. The topics and activities are adapted to each groups’ level of learning.

Psychosocial support

Psychosocial support

Not all entrepreneurs in the WEP are ready to start counseling sessions from day one. PV staff supports them by listening to them during monthly meetings where they share what they want but without the “pressure/compromise” that going to the psychologist implodes for them. For some of them, this is the first step to say yes to psychological treatment.

Ensuring mental health access for children and their families was one of the first additional services PV began financing. Our goal is to expand parents and caregivers’ understandings of how to raise a family, discover new ways supporting their child’s social-emotional development, and learn more about their child’s behaviors and their own.

Our work is only possible with your support!
