Meet Evelyn!

Evelyn is in 5 year old Pre-K this year, and she will be turning 6 next year on January 23rd. She lives with her mom and dad and is an only child. One of her favorite activities is dramatic interpretations of the illustrations in story books, and her teacher this year mentioned that one of her strengths is expressing solidarity with her classmates when they have difficulties. One thing she struggles with is being confident while telling others about her ideas. Evelyn is often described as responsible, helpful, and friendly. She is always ready with a smile and a hug!

20160604 132831Evelyn’s mom and dad, Gladis and Edgar, are 22 and 24. They both finished high-school and Gladis sells fruits and vegetables on the streets while Edgar has a steady job. They applied for a scholarship from Programa Velasco because, although both parents are currently working, their income can be variable.

Gladis also joined our Women’s Empowerment Project this year to help grow her business and is taking important steps toward greater economic independence! With Programa Velasco seed money, she plans to expand the variety of fruits and vegetables she is able to offer to her clients. Gladis is a dedicated small business operator and a responsible mother. Thank you for your support of families like these!
