Meet Mateo!

Say hello to Mateo Alexander Bedoya Arevalo! Mateo is a returning student to the Center, having completed 2-year-old pre-school here last year. He turned 3 on March 7th, and is enjoying his classroom this year with about 23 other students. One of Mateo’s favorite activities is playing with cars, and his teacher this year mentioned that one of his strengths is being sociable. He loves to give big smiles and waves to everyone he sees around the Center. One thing he struggles with is pronouncing his words clearly. Mateo is often described as friendly, helpful, and respectful.

Mateo’s mom and dad, Ana Elizabeth and Milarvito, are 22 and 28. They finished seventh grade and eighth grade, respectively, and Ana is a waitress while Milarvito sells ice cream on the street from a cart, earning approximately $370 a month between the two of them. They applied for a scholarship from Programa Velasco this year because both parents are employed but do not earn a stable income that would be sufficient to pay for Mateo’s full tuition at the center. We are so glad to support this family, and thankful for supporters like you who make it possible for Mateo to receive a head start on his development.

If you would like to support a child like Mateo, find more information here, and be sure to check back next #MeetMeMonday for an introduction to another one of our scholarship students!
